RIM Extends Deadline for Android App Developers

Do you guys remember our recent report on ‘Android app developers can win a PlayBook tablet?’ We’ve got an update for you guys!

If you wanted to join the contest but was unable to, or if this is your first time to hear about it; here’s your second chance! RIM has just given an extension to the deadline of the contest. Initially, entries for the contest were only accepted until February 15. But because of the ‘overwhelming interest’ shown by the public, the company decided to extend the deadline for submitting an app until March 2.
Apart from the intense number of people who showed interest in the contest, the company also said that the reason why they decided to extend the submission period was so they could have more time to process and approve all the apps.
As of this writing, the company has received 1,500 new apps for review as well as 6,600 new developer registrations. We’re not sure if the PlayBook really is that exciting to use, after all, we’re Android fans. But well, we won’t say no to a free tablet!
