When the things you know for sure about an upcoming gadget or device can be summed up into one simple sentence, like “we know nothing for sure about the Samsung Galaxy S3”, there is an endless sea of possibilities surrounding us all.
Could the Galaxy S3 be powered by a 2 GHz quad-core processor? It could. Could it sport a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED display? Why not? Could it run Android 5.0 Jelly Bean out of the box? Hard to believe, but it’s still possible.
But, could the Samsung Galaxy S3 come with a 3D display? Definitely not, according to an official statement from Sammy. The Korean-manufacturer told Engadget a few hours ago that “although Samsung Electronics is constantly exploring new technologies for our mobile devices, we have no immediate plan to include displays featuring 3D technology in our upcoming smartphones.”
I don’t know about you, but I personally didn’t think for one second that the Galaxy S3 could have a 3D display in store for us, as we all know that the technology is unfortunately far from being perfect on today’s smartphones (or tablets, for that matter).
You need expensive glasses, the devices themselves are pretty expensive, and you can’t even enjoy the 3D experience from any angle you look at the screen, so for the time being I don’t think that many technology enthusiasts are excited by such gadgets.
On the other hand, it’s nice to know something official about the Galaxy S3 for a change, even though we are talking about a function that won’t be featured by the phone, and a predictable one for that matter.
It’s worth mentioning, on a different note, that Samsung’s official statement from earlier today refers to “upcoming smartphones” and “no immediate plans”, which might mean three things. First of all, we will definitely not be seeing a 3D Samsung smartphone launched in 2012. Secondly, the guys at Sammy, even though they are not saying it directly, may be planning the release of such a smartphone in the distant future.
Thirdly, and keep in mind that I’m reading between the lines here and I’m going on a limb with a not-very-safe assumption, we can understand from the statement that Samsung is in fact planning to release a 3D-enabled tablet in the near future. I mean, I don’t think that it’s just a coincidence that the comment refers to “mobile devices” at first and to “upcoming smartphones” afterwards. Once again, this is just a wild guess, and is not to be taken very seriously.
